Ash Versus Oak Furniture

Oak Furniture Solutions began by supplying Solid Oak furniture to retail customers within the UK. As our family owned business has developed we have introduced a number of other wood furniture such as Painted Pine, Mango and Solid Ash Furniture.

We often have customers ask us what the different is between Oak and Ash furniture is, and indeed they are very similar, so we will attempt here to highlight the similarities and differences:

  • Both dense hardwoods with a tight grain
  • Ash has a slightly tighter and uniform grain that oak.
  • Ash also has less colour difference.
  • Ash usually has less knots than oak, although oak can be purchased with no knots at all.
  • Oak is today in much shorter supply and therefore more expensive
